The new European standard NF EN 1307 came into force on 20 March 1997 and was revised in 2005. It has the status of a French standard. This standard provides a classification for wall-to-wall carpet and carpet tiles, determining the usage of these textile floor coverings according to their wear resistance and change in appearance. It also specifies their degree of comfort. The standard defines 7 classes of use covering all types of requirements for textile floor coverings: - Class 21: moderate/occasional use
- Class 22: regular/normal use
- Class 22+: regular use
- Class 23: heavy-duty
